Why abusing steroid powders can ruin you?
When used properly, steroids can do more good than harm. Doctors treat thin cancer patients or people with AIDS with anabolic steroid powders to help them regain the weight they have lost due to the disease.
Anabolic steroids are also used to treat certain hormone deficiencies.
But when you abuse steroid powders, you will face a lot of side effects!
Anabolic steroid powders are synthetic forms of testosterone, and steroid abuse is common among athletes around the world.
Some people use these steroids without a prescription to improve athletic performance or make muscles look stronger.
Known side effects of these drugs in men include breast growth, hair loss, testicular shrinkage, and low testosterone levels.
Low testosterone levels, also known as hypogonadism, can lead to decreased libido, poor erection, and low sperm count.
The study's lead investigator, Dr. Jon J. Rasmussen, a scientist at Rigshospitalet Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark, said:
"Whether misuse of anabolic steroid powders leads to long-term testosterone deficiency is still debated."
He said researchers at the hospital had identified a hormone produced by Leydig cells (the testosterone-producing cells in the testes) as a promising biomarker of testicular function.
Because testosterone levels in the blood can vary widely throughout the day and vary by body composition, Rasmussen and his colleagues are investigating a more stable marker than testosterone called serum insulin-like factor 3 ( INSL3).
In the study, supported by Dan Anti-Doping, the research team included 132 participants from another study,
They are men who do recreational strength training. Their ages ranged from 18 to 50, with an average of 32.
The three study groups included 46 men who were currently using anabolic steroid powders, 42 former steroid users, and 44 men who had never used these steroids.
According to the report, former steroid users have not taken anabolic steroids for an average of 32 months.
Among steroid users, INSL3 was significantly suppressed compared with former users and never users, Rasmussen said.
Compared with people who had never used steroids, former steroid users had lower INSL3 concentrations of 0.59 μg/L and 0.39 μg/L, respectively.
Additionally, the researchers found that the longer men used steroid powders, the lower their INSL3 levels.
"Our results suggest that people who have ever used anabolic steroid powders have chronically impaired gonadal capacity."
